Severe Stomach Pain? Don't Always Assume It's Gastritis!

Abdominal pain is a common complaint that can stem from various conditions. However, severe abdominal pain does not always indicate gastritis. Pain that appears suddenly and is accompanied by specific symptoms may signal a serious condition requiring immediate medical attention.

Warning signs to watch for include sudden, severe abdominal pain; a hard or rigid abdomen; persistent vomiting; vomiting blood; passing black or bloody stools; high fever accompanied by severe pain; and fainting, extreme weakness, or breaking out in a cold sweat.

Signs of Abdominal Pain Requiring Immediate Attention

Seek immediate care at the Emergency Department (IGD) if the abdominal pain is accompanied by the following conditions:

• Sudden, severe pain.
• A hard or rigid abdomen.
• Persistent vomiting.
• Vomiting blood.
• Black or bloody stools.
• High fever accompanied by severe pain.
• Fainting, extreme weakness, or cold sweats.

Do not dismiss severe abdominal pain as ordinary gastritis, especially if symptoms worsen or are accompanied by warning signs. A medical examination is necessary to identify the cause and determine the appropriate treatment.

When Should You Go to the Emergency Department (IGD)?

Immediate medical attention is required if abdominal pain is severe, worsening, or accompanied by persistent vomiting, bleeding, fever, fainting, or extreme physical weakness.
